Living in Malaysia
Malaysia is situated at the heart of South East Asia.It is referres to as one of teh fastest growing Muslim country in the world..Half of its economic growth is dedicated to Dr Mahathir Mohamad..His fierce attitude towards westeners are most well known.Decades ago, indians..primarily south indians were brought in through penang by the british to work as rubber tappers..So, the family trees of many indians in Malaysia start in rubber estates..It mmight surprise u that i refer to Malaysian born indians as indians..But that is our identity here..africans in america are referred to as african americans..but here..we are not called as indian malaysians..we are referred to simply as indians despite the fact that we were born here and bear the equal rights to be referred to as Malaysians..Now, one may ask how proud I am to be a malaysian and how much devotion i have for this country..This is a question that i have asked myself many times..Everytime i sang the malaysian national anthem in my school assembly..everytime I sang the national anthem in my university official functions..But the answer still plays hide and seek with me..22 years i have been calling Malaysia home..But do i really feel "at home"??there are many "sensitive issues" that are not allowed to be questioned here.Such as "do we really recieve our equal rights in education".."are we really allowed to practice our religious believes independently".."do we have equal rights in the country's politics" Survival is part of living..and we are all survivng..It is the matter of how good our surviving skills are.
